Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information the Shad Eddie Mongrue Books Gallery collects at shadeddiemongruebooksgallery.com, how it's used, and the choices and rights you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose: we collect very little, and we never sell it.
Who we are
The site is run by Shad Eddie Mongrue, an author based in Antelope, California, United States ("we", "us"). For any privacy question or request, email [email protected].
What we collect
- When you join the free Reader's Circle, either through the form on the home page or the "Before you go" offer: your first name, email address, any shelves you pick, the wording you agreed to, the date and time, and the country your connection comes from, as reported by our hosting provider.
- When you email us to ask a question, reserve a membership or request something: whatever you choose to include.
- When you buy a membership once checkout opens: the details needed to deliver it. Card payments are handled by the payment provider shown at checkout, and we never see or store your full card number.
- Technical data handled by our host. Like every website, the site is delivered through servers that see your IP address and basic browser information. Our host, Cloudflare, processes this to deliver pages and block attacks. We don't use it to profile you.
We don't use advertising trackers, analytics cookies or social-media pixels.
Storage on your device
The site saves a few small notes in your own browser's storage, not in cookies, so it doesn't ask you twice. Examples are that you already joined, or that you closed the sign-up offer and it shouldn't appear again for 14 days. These notes stay on your device and are never sent to us. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings.
How we use it
- To send the Reader's Circle emails and free chapters you asked for.
- To reply to your messages and deliver memberships, gifts and rewards.
- To keep the site secure and prevent spam sign-ups.
- To meet legal duties, such as keeping a record of your consent and honoring unsubscribe requests.
Legal bases for visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and similar places: your consent for marketing emails, performance of a contract for memberships, and our legitimate interest in a secure, working website.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't give it to other companies for their own marketing. We use only service providers that help run the site, and only for that purpose:
- Cloudflare, which hosts the site and stores the sign-up list.
- Fontshare (Indian Type Foundry), which supplies the site's fonts. Your browser contacts their servers to load them, so they can see your IP address.
- An email service, once we start sending newsletters, used only to deliver our emails.
- A payment provider, when membership checkout opens.
Links to Amazon, Books2Read, BookFunnel and other stores take you to their sites, which have their own privacy policies.
Our email promises
- We email you only if you tick the consent box. The box is never pre-ticked, and you never have to join to buy a book.
- Every email will show who it's from, include our postal mailing address and offer a one-click way to unsubscribe. We honor unsubscribes promptly, and always within 10 business days.
- After you unsubscribe, we keep only a note of your email address so we don't contact you again.
How long we keep it
We keep sign-up details while you're a Reader's Circle member. We delete them within 30 days after you unsubscribe or ask us to, except for the do-not-email note above. We keep membership and purchase records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, generally up to 7 years.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can email us to:
- see the personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct it, or ask us to delete it;
- withdraw your consent to emails at any time, without affecting anything sent before;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it.
We'll reply within 30 days, or within 45 days where California law allows. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
EEA and UK visitors can also complain to their local data protection authority. California residents have the rights given by the California Consumer Privacy Act where it applies. Because we don't sell or share personal information, there's nothing to opt out of. Under California's "Shine the Light" law, we don't share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We don't track visitors across other websites, so a "Do Not Track" signal changes nothing here. We still treat Global Privacy Control and similar opt-out signals as a request not to sell or share your information, which we already don't do.
Children
The site offers books for younger readers, but it's meant to be used by adults. The Reader's Circle, memberships and rewards are for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
International visitors
We're based in the United States, and our service providers may store or process information in the U.S. and other countries. Where the law requires it, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the providers' standard contractual clauses.
Security
The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS. The sign-up list is stored with access limited to us. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect as little as possible so there's less to protect.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll ask for your consent again or tell you by email.
